HIP HOP CURRICULUM PROJECT LAUNCHES RHYMES TO RE-EDUCATION!

eflyer-1

Rhymes to Re-Education is a Hip Hop Curriculum resource guide. Its goal is to mobilize the power, popularity and potential of Hip Hop culture as a platform for transformative education and re-education. Intended as a resource for both school- and community-based educators, it describes the what, why and how of using Hip Hop as critical pedagogy to engage and activate the hearts and minds of learners ages 7 and up.

Rhymes to Re-Education was created by a group of Hip Hop headz and practitioners, youth, educators and community members who collectively became known as the Hip Hip Curriculum Project. We gathered in cyphers to share ideas, provide feedback, built on each other’s thoughts, and collectively shaped this resource. In Hip Hop culture, the concept of the cypher is an essential element, providing a space where community and creativity can be nurtured.

ANEEMAH’S SPOT is a stylistic mix of stealthy dialogue, rhyme and spoken word. The funeral of “G” brings Aneemah and Wan together to mourn and share their histories, as they are forced to let go of the past and choose how they will navigate life, either apart or together, from this moment on.

Written by Motion, and directed by Charles Officer, the award-winning production stars Amanda Parris and Shomari Downer and features an infectious sound-scape by DJ L’Oqenz that pulsates like the city that birthed it.
